Monty Williams Climbs Up ND's Highest Paid List

This past week the Detroit Pistons made the decision to let Notre Dame alum Monty Williams go while still owing him $65 million for the remaining years of his contract.  Williams made $7.9 million during his NBA playing career.

Add on his years as a NBA coach -- with three head coaching stints in New Orleans, Phoenix and Detroit -- Monty did quite well.

NBA head coaching salaries are rarely made public.  Monty was a head coach for nine seasons, before signing his huge contract with the Pistons.  Let's assume that Williams made on average $4 million per year (conservative assumption) over those nine seasons as a head coach and $500,000 per season (conservative assumption) during his 7 seasons as an NBA assistant coach.   This would total $39.5 million.

Williams' Detroit Pistons contract totaled $78.5 million -- add up all of his compensation in professional sports and you have:  $125,900,000 -- which places him FIRST on the all-time list of former Notre Dame student-athletes:

  • Monty Williams:  $125,900,000

James Roe, who drives for Andretti Global, wore the Notre Dame Football Gold in IndyNXT races Friday and Saturday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The good news from the weekend:
  • He ran the 2nd fastest qualifying time
  • He finished 4th in Saturday's race -- even after being hit from behind in the opening lap and falling to 6th place.
  • He was proud to wear the Notre Dame Gold!

Notre Dame Football Racing Helmet at Indy!

James Roe, a racer from Ireland who drives for Andretti Global -- will be wearing a specially designed Notre Dame Football Racing Helmet this weekend at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

I feel fortunate to have played a "small" part in making this happen.  Aaron Horvath and Tim "Oak" O'Connor were the driving forces behind making this a reality inside the Notre Dame Athletics Department.

Go Irish!  Go James Roe!

Liatu King Transfers to Notre Dame Women's Hoops!

King averaged over 18 points and 10 rebounds a game this season for the Pitt Panthers -- and she scored 34 in a game against our Fighting Irish.  A scoring and rebounding force.  Great pick-up for Notre Dame!

The Road to "Back to Back" National Championships!

The Fighting Irish of Notre Dame will face the winner of the Albany vs. Sacred Heart game -- and then it looks like a potential rematch with the only team to beat us this season -- Georgetown.

Go Irish!
