Fun Fact: Digger Phelps Still Stands Alone...

Hubert Davis had a chance to join his good friend, and Notre Dame legend, Digger Phelps as the only two head coaches in college basketball history to ever do this:

Beat UCLA, Duke and Kansas in the same season.

Unfortunately, the Tar Heels didn't get it done tonight...

Digger and his Fighting Irish remains the only team to do this -- during their great run during the 1973-74 season.

Just In Case You Forgot: ND 78 -- UNC 73

The Fighting Irish had one of their better games of the season on January 5th, when they beat the eventual National Runner-Up.

And, never forget the media & NCAA Tournament Selection Committee pegged this "a down year" for ACC Basketball:

  • CONFERENCES WITH MORE TEAMS IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT THEN THE ACC:
    • BIG TEN -- 9 teams
    • BIG EAST -- 6 teams
    • BIG 12 -- 6 teams
    • SEC -- 6 teams
    • ACC -- 5 teams
  • HERE ARE THE FINAL NCAA TOURNAMENT RECORD BY CONFERENCE:
    • ACC:  14 - 5
    • BIG 12:  13 - 5
    • BIG EAST:  7 - 6
    • BIG TEN: 9 - 9
    • SEC: 5 - 6

I'm Rooting for the "Domer's" Team Tonight!

Bubba Cunningham, a proud member of Notre Dame's Class of 1984 -- will be sitting courtside tonight in New Orleans, cheering on his North Carolina Tar Heels.

Cunningham has been their Director of Athletics since 2011.

Go Tar Heels!
