Grantland Rice Penned This 90 Years Ago...

This very day...

"Outlined against a blue-gray October sky the Four Horsemen rode again. In dramatic lore they are known as famine, pestilence, destruction and death. These are only aliases. Their real names are: Stuhldreher, Miller, Crowley and Layden. They formed the crest of the South Bend cyclone before which another fighting Army team was swept over the precipice at the Polo Grounds this afternoon as 55,000 spectators peered down upon the bewildering panorama spread out upon the green plain below."

This was published in the New York Herald Tribune on October 18, 1924

I can just see tomorrow's headline in the South Bend Tribune:

"OUTLINED AGAINST AN AUTOGRAPHED OCTOBER SKY..."

A Notre Dame Grotto Engagement: Last Night

One of my teammates, Brandon Tabor -- "popped the question" to his girlfriend Emily Kendall at the University of Notre Dame's Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes last night at 6:13 PM ET.  To say that Emily did not see this coming -- would be an understatement -- nor, the many surprised visitors at the Grotto, who were witness to this special moment...

Our team had a hand in orchestrating the surprise -- and Notre Dame alum Kaity Fuja '09,  from OMG Photography was kind enough to show up and capture the moment on camera.  You'll see in the photo sequence above; Brandon started out giving Emily a hug -- after they had lit a candle, then he drops to one knee...

Now Brandon admitted this morning that he was so nervous and excited -- he doesn't remember if the words "Will you marry me?" ever came out of his mouth.  I think the pictures confirm the ask...

Oh, by the way -- Emily said "YES!"

Domer Zack Martin '13 -- Guest on Mike & MIKE

Domer Baldwin: Five Birdies in PGA Debut!

That was the good Mark Baldwin '06, can take away from his first time competing on the biggest stage in professional golf.  The Notre Dame alum played today in the first round of the Shriners Hospitals for Children at TPC Summerlin.

Baldwin, with five birdies, still ended up two over par for the day.  He'll have to "go low" tomorrow to make the cut -- and I believe he will!  Point of reference -- the first round leader had seven birdies...

Mark is the first Notre Dame grad to tee it up at a PGA Tour event in the last fifty years.  You can watch this week's tournament on NBC's Golf Channel.
