Took a "lap" around the social media space this morning to check on the "latest talk" about tonight's game between our Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and the Black Knights of Army. The kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM EST. The photo is courtesy of the New York Times and it shows former Notre Dame defensive end and current New York Giants star, Justin Tuck speaking to the Notre Dame Pep Rally crowd at New York City's Lincoln Center last night. It's Notre Dame GameDay -- In NYC!
Here's what's planned for Notre Dame fans today in New York City. Please note that if the gang at UND.COM covers any of these events -- I will be sure to provide you links -- so please keep checking back to the ND GO IRISH BLOG as the day moves along towards the 7:30 PM EST kick-off!
7:00 AM: Tune in to NBC's Today Show -- I'm just guessing that the Today Show will spend a pretty good period of time this morning promoting their PRIMETIME telecast tonight between the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and the Black Knights of Army at Yankee Stadium. And, I suspect Notre Dame fans will "take over" the plaza outside the Today Show's studio in Rockfeller Center -- so look for the Irish when they do their "remotes" from the plaza. The Today Show runs until 10:00 AM.
10:30 AM: Notre Dame Mass @ St. Patrick's Cathedral. University of Notre Dame President, Rev. John Jenkins -- will preside over Mass at this Catholic landmark in Midtown Manhattan.
12:00 PM: The Band of the Fighting Irish's traditional "Concert on the Steps" @ Times Square! The greatest college marching band in the land will set up on the "steps" in Duffy Square in the middle of New York City's Times Square. This should be a "must see" for all Notre Dame fans in NYC today!
1:30 PM: Game Day in NYC Tailgate Party @ Sheraton Hotel & Towers. This event is already sold-out. It runs until 6 PM.
4:00 PM: UND.COM's exclusive pre-game coverage begins -- LIVE from Yankee Stadium. Just click on this link and get ready for the big game!
Please note: It's been rumored that The Band of the Fighting Irish (all 390 of them) will be taking the Subway from Grand Central Station up to Yankee Stadium. And, it's also been rumored that the subway cars they'll be riding in -- have been "wrapped" in a design celebrating Notre Dame's famed "Subway Alumni." Now, I haven't been able to confirm this -- but, those of you in NYC for the game, you may want to ask around to see what the Band's plans are for getting to Yankee Stadium.
5:00 PM: Notre Dame "Young Alumni" Event @ Billy's Sports Bar next to Yankee Stadium. This should be a "hopping place" before game time!
7:00 PM: NBC's Prime Time telecast of the Notre Dame vs. Army game begins. The pre-game ceremonies are expected to be quite special -- with former Heisman Trophy Winners from Notre Dame and Army on the field for the coin toss to be joined by a member of the late George Steinbrenner's family. And, the Army's "Black Knights Parachute Team" is expected to make a "grand entrance" into Yankee Stadium. See the link below to one of NBC's best ever "tune in" promotional spots for today's game. THIS WILL GET YOU FIRED UP FOR TONIGHT!

7:30 PM: Kick-off of the first football game ever in the new Yankee Stadium -- between the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame and the Black Knights of Army. It's the 50th meeting between these two teams with Notre Dame holding a 38-7-4 edge in the series.
10:00 PM: UND.COM will be broadcasting a LIVE post-game show from Yankee Stadium as will the gang at NBC's Notre Dame Central. See Brian Kelly's press conference and Notre Dame player interviews. Here are the links to these two sites:

While the video was playing, NBC's sideline reporter for ND Football -- Alex Flanagan, took this photo and "tweeted' it.
It's Notre Dame Friday -- In New York City!
The good folks at UND.COM have their entire crew in NYC this weekend to cover Notre Dame's "imprint" on the Big Apple. Trust me, Notre Dame is the only school in America that could pull all of this off. Here are the links to all of the Notre Dame events (ND Football Luncheon, Team "Walk Through" at Yankee Stadium, Ringing Closing Bell @ NASDAQ, Pep Rally, etc) in New York City today. Enjoy!

Notre Dame's freshman QB -- Tommy Rees was assigned Yankee Captain, Derek Jeter's locker!

Wrigley Field's -- End Zone Malfunction!
This Saturday, two American landmark sports stadiums will be hosting college football games -- Yankee Stadium and Wrigley Field. Unfortunately - the game being played at Wrigley Field -- will be a ONE WAY ONLY game. You can't make this up! Officials have determined that the close proximity of Wrigley's famous ivy covered outfield wall (photo on left) is too close for comfort -- so Northwestern and Illinois will not be allowed to use that end zone. This will be talked about for years... (Note how they attached the goal posts to the outfield wall) There goes the Big Ten's effort to top ND in NYC. Here's two links to the breaking news on THE END ZONE -- THAT ISN'T:

Photo Of The Day: Babe Ruth in a ND Jersey!

Lou's Lads Meet in NYC Last Night!
A number of former Notre Dame football players who played for Coach Lou Holtz -- met last night with Coach Holtz at Cipriani's in New York City. They've formed a foundation back in 2008 called "Lou's Lads" to endow a scholarship at the University of Notre Dame -- and last night's event raised a significant amount of money for the foundation. Here's a link to "Lou's Lads" website:
