He Just Started His Next "Notre Dame Streak"

I learned this morning that my friend Stanley Weber (Tiffin, OH), left for Heaven yesterday at the age of 94.

His devoted nephew, Joe Fretz -- you'll see Joe in the video above -- sent a text to let me know.

This Notre Dame "surperfan" attended his first game inside Notre Dame Stadium on November 22, 1941 -- and for the next 76 years -- Stanley was a fixture at his seat in the front row, on the "east side" of the famed Tunnel entrance.

Well, Stanley Weber just started a new streak yesterday, watching his first game from Heaven's Notre Dame Section.

Stanley -- thanks for loving Notre Dame and Her football team.

Here's some of my posts the last few years about Stanley Weber:

399 Football Games @ Notre Dame Stadium !!!

Stanley Weber (Tiffin, OH) -- who is 89 years young -- was in the stands at Notre Dame Stadium yesterday for the 399th football game in his life-time!  He has every single ticket stub from those 399 games...

That's Stanley on the left with his great-nephew Joe Fretz.  Joe and Stanley make the three-hour drive from Tiffin to Notre Dame -- every home game Saturday morning. Stanley and Joe's season tickets are in the front row of Section 1 -- on the east side of the TUNNEL entrance.  My wife Susan and I sit a row behind them...

Stanley has missed only one home football game since the 1950 season because he was hospitalized with an aneuyrsm.  The game -- Notre Dame vs. Georgia Tech in 1975 when some walk-on named "Rudy" sacked a QB.

His first game at Notre Dame Stadium -- was November 22, 1941.  Frank Leahy was in his first year coaching the IRISH and Stanley saw Notre Dame beat USC 20 - 18.   The Irish went undefeated that season.

Ironically, Stanley's 400th game in Notre Dame Stadium will be October 19th against USC!

Stanley and his wife Anna are the proud parents of Tom Weber, a member of Notre Dame's Class of 1966.  Anna stopped coming to games with Stanley eight years ago because she didn't like the long walk "up and down the steps" to and from their seats.  They have been married 70 years!

This man has had a "front row seat" to college football history -- imagine the stories he can tell.  I'm looking forward to shaking Stanley's hand and asking to have my picture taken with him at game #400.  Pretty incredible.

BOOKEND USC GAMES: 72 YEARS APART!

In the "you can't make this up" category of stories -- this was a story I couldn't pass up...

Stanley Weber's first game inside Notre Dame was against USC as Frank Leahy's Irish beat the Trojans 20 -18 on November 22, 1941 -- game #400 (72 years later) Brian Kelly's Fighting Irish beat USC 14 - 10 !!!

If you follow this blog you'll recall that the only game Stanley has missed inside Notre Dame Stadium since 1950 was the 1975 game against Georgia Tech when some guy named "Rudy" sacked a QB -- see the South Bend Tribune story linked below.

Well, wouldn't you know it -- before game 400 -- Stanley Weber gets to meet Rudy Ruettiger (photo above).

And, it gets better.  While Stanley is talking with Rudy he pulls off his hat and reveals a "special hair cut" (bottom photo) that he received by a barber this week in Tiffin, OH.   Come to find out, the barber who cut the Notre Dame monogram into the back of 89 year-old Stanley's head is Jason Raitz -- the "first cousin" of Brian Kelly's executive assistant, Beth Raitz-Rex.

You can't make this up!

Congratulations on #400 Stanley!

Game #412 of the Last 414 for Stanley Weber!

Notre Dame super-fan Stanley Weber will be attending his 412th game tonight -- out of the last 414 at Notre Dame Stadium -- over the last 74 seasons!

The streak began November 22, 1941 when Frank Leahy's Fighting Irish beat USC 20 - 18 !!!  It was the 16th game in this rivalry.

Stanley has kept every ticket over the 74 years at Notre Dame Stadium -- that's him holding the scrap book with the tickets.

His ticket cost for that first game in 1941 against USC -- $2.20 -- his ticket cost for tonight's game:  $125.

These are the tickets to his first eight games at Notre Dame Stadium -- CLICK ON IMAGE TO ENLARGE.

Stanley's #409 of the Last 411 at Notre Dame!

Can you believe it -- Stanley Weber attended his 409th game today at Notre Dame Stadium out of the last 411 -- over the last 74 seasons!

Stanley brought his ticket scrap book for me to see -- every one of the 408 tickets -- prior to today, are showcased in this scrap book!!!

The top photo shows his ticket from GAME #1 -- it was the USC game in 1941 and his ticket price was $2.00 plus 30 cents tax!  The #4 ranked Irish beat USC that day 20 - 18.
