The University of Notre Dame notified the Big East Conference this morning at 9:30 AM ET that they have accepted the invitation to join the Atlantic Coast Conference for all sports -- OTHER THAN FOOTBALL and hockey!
Earlier this year -- Syracuse and the University of Pittsburgh left the Big East Conference to join the ACC. Notre Dame, when it officially joins, will become the 15th member institution.
Please note: the actual timeline for the move from the BIG EAST to ATLANTIC COAST CONFERENCE is to be determined.
Notre Dame has agreed to play five football games, each season, against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents -- once ND leaves the BIG EAST CONFERENCE.
At 12:30 PM ET today -- University of Notre Dame's president Father John Jenkins, C.S.C. will be joined by athletic director Jack Swarbrick at a news conference at the site of the ACC's Annual Meeting on the campus of the University of North Carolina -- I'm guessing ESPN NEWS will carry that news conference live.
At 6 PM ET this evening -- Jack Swarbrick, Coach Kelly and other Notre Dame officials and athletes will be meeting with the media at the Guglielmino Athletics Complex. No word yet, on whether that will be carried live at UND.COM.
