Folks, if you were watching the Notre Dame vs. North Dakota NCAA Hockey Tournament game tonight -- you saw what looked like the game winning goal with 0.5 seconds left on the clock.
The photo above shows the game clock with time left when goal was scored!
The TV clock showed that -- as did the "green light" (video below) that went off showing the goal was scored in regulation time...
Here was Notre Dame head coach Jeff Jackson talking about the referee's call:
“I just
based it on what was on the scoreboard and they’re telling me there’s
two different clocks? We’re playing to the scoreboard, not to a clock
that’s not visible to anybody,” Jackson explained. “When the green light
went on I assumed there was still time on the clock. At least that’s
the way it is in the NHL.”
Well, the referees called it a NO GOAL -- forcing OT, which Notre Dame fortunately prevailed.
But, what if they had not?
It will be interesting to see if the NCAA releases a statement later tonight or tomorrow on why they disallowed the goal...
