In less than four weeks -- our daughter Kara will be walking down the aisle at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart (on the University of Notre Dame campus) to marry her fiance Conor Walsh...
Standing at the altar will be none other than Theodore Cardinal McCarrick -- the former Archbishop of Washington D.C. -- Conor's "great" uncle.
Cardinal McCarrick is a great friend to Notre Dame -- in fact he delivered the Commencement Address at our son Jimmy's graduation from ND in 2008. Little did we know sitting in the Purcell Pavilion seats that day -- six years later he would be marrying our daughter and future son-in-law at Notre Dame.
Back in early March of 2013 -- Conor reached out to the Cardinal ("Uncle Ted") to ask him to officiate at his wedding to Kara -- ironically, McCarrick was in Rome at the time for the Conclave that elected Pope Francis.
Here's a link to a story of what happened to Cardinal McCarrick just a few days after he agreed to come to Notre Dame to marry our daughter -- you'll enjoy his exchanges with Pope Francis...
It's going to be a special day.
